The Shadow Government

The Shadow Government visited the Univesity of Balamand on March 10, 2007 as part of its program to visit universities in Lebanon with the aim of introducing itself, its programs and goals. During the Government’s visit to Balamand, a seminar was held with Ghassan Hajjar, Secretary of Nahar Al-Shabab, Shadow Government General Secretary Eyad Wakim and Minister of Culture and Human Rights Yihya Mawloud, who is a UOB student. The seminar was also attended by many faculty members and students.  The representatives of the Shadow Government spoke about its creation, the idea of the martyr Gibran Twaini, who fought strongly throughout his life for the rights of youth.  The idea took form three months before his death.


The main goals of the Shadow Government are to:
• Create a dynamic political movement for the youth
• Allow youth to have meaningful participation since they have the courage to speak out
• Enrich leadership skills and knowledge of youth
•  Observe the performance of the current government.
The seminar ended with a discussion on the role of youth in national and political participation.
